Boycott this shop at Sim Lim Square Singapore

I am here to boycott this motherfucking shop.

When you enter the shop, the motherfucking sales fucker will tell you the details of the video cam or camera you are seeking or surveying. They will shit you out if you never buy or either you walk out of the store telling them that you will consider. They are fucking rude. I've been there, and some other customers been there.

They think Im just wasting their time. But the fact, i was going to get my credit card from my wife and i felt like buying. Because of that rude comment made by that fucker. I am once again here to boycott this silly shop.

This shop is located on the 2nd floor right beside the escalator on the left. Do not go to that fucking shop. The banner on top of the shop also indicates spy cameras. This is a piece of shit shop. Please beware.

  4. today i went there buying a D90 (quoted price was $1660 at other places).

I went to look for places with cheapest price. and this store give me $1600 with a bag worth $180 and a tripod worth $100 and 8gb memory card worth $30.

I went to look for cheaper prices but i cannot find. so i went back there, they started to charge in a different price, telling me rubbish things like the bag cannot be included and so.

Wasting my time, my girlfriend scolded them "why waste our time since you all cannot give the price"

he scolded back "Hey, u dont should at me, i am old enough to be your father".

I promise, next time i am there, i will call police. Cameratalk pte ltd, you dont worth to open there.

PLEASE CLOSE YOUR SHOP. YOU THROW SINGAPOREAN'S FACE!

  5. I had a big problem with them. And had my money back in 24h. Prepare a claim as it is written on the internet site on the Small Claim Tribunal and go to the tribunal. It costs quite nothing and they help you a lot !
Tell also the stb Singapore Tourism Board.

  6. I really regret I didn't read this blog entry first.
They sold me a FAKE battery for my canon 550D.
Now, I also start wondering if the Sundisk SD card they gave me is also a fake. The molding of
the plastic is definitely too lousy for Sundisk.

He charged me $65 for one pin hole camera..I need it for my factory surveillance and I need it to operas at night to watch over my stores and materials, yet when I tested it out just now, i can't see a shit when the lights are just dim off.. and it's not wireless or even infra red enabled.. I thought I could trust him.. in the end I found people selling $45 bucks for a wireless pin hole online.. How do I go about doing claim? He definitely has mark up the price of the device by more than 100 percent.. Can some experinced kind soul guide me? I'll be checking back to this blog..

  11. We have bought a camera (the best one). later on we went to the internet and realised that he has taken more than 3 times the price from us, than we saw in the internet. The shop has the name "camera talk pte ltd". The shop was at the 150 Orchard Road. Probebly a second one or he has changed. Be very careful this man is a criminel.

  12. I am not surprised at the number of posts against the shop cameratalk pte ltd! I bought a camera there yesterday and the guy was so incredibly rude ! He first offered sgd 400 off the price - then told us that a lower spec model was better and would do us a favour by selling us this model at a cheaper price. After paying and seeing the box, we realised we had been conned ! We asked that he replace the lower spec model with the higher spec camera and he refused - he then went on to ask for an additional SGD 550 to replace the lower spec camera with the higher spec camera saying he had changed his mind ! The whole shop is run by a bunch of cons....i've lived in singapore 5 years and never have i had such an unpleasant shopping experience !!!

  16. I just went there this late evening. Was wanted to buy a Nikon D90.
Initially an old fella offered me $1200 which including the kit lense. This is way more cheaper than normal price offered by other shop which is $1350.
When we are intended to walk out of the shop, he lower the price to $1100. (WOW! this is the price of D90 body only in other shops).
Ok, we accepted the offer. However, after we made the payment, he offered us a so-call "3-in-1" lense (wide-angle, macro and HD image).
From his explanation, it was supposed to be $2199 for usual price. Then he offer us $899, discounted more than 50% of original price.
Then we said don't want, out of our budget. He lower down the price again to $623. But we still rejected him.
Sooner later, he said his store man is out for dinner. we gotta wait for 1hour to get the DSLR. And he asked us to come back to his shop after 1hr and void our payment 1st, come back later to make the payment again.
We believed that he offered the wrong pricing for the D90 with kit lense. Then just wanna make up from the "3-in-1" lense.
Fortunately we back out from the deal, as we found out the "3-in-1" lense worth only $150. (OMG!!!!) we are lucky as we didn't get cheated by the shop. But the salesman was dishonest and NOT doing the right job.

  17. I just got conned by the same people! like the I bought a nikkor lens af zoom-nikkor 70-300 f/4-5/g G at S$ 374! I thought it was a deal since his initial offer was over $600. when I saw in other shops, they sell the zoon lens at s$250(my cousin bought one from a differet shop) and then he offered me the HD-digital platinum 0.5x wide angle lens that sells at s$1299.. and since i'm 'lucky' customer for going there just before they close for "renovation", he offered it to me at 736! I thought it was a steal since i'm a newbie in digital photography... my cousin later informed me that he found wide angle lens with the same specs at only s$250 also in sim lim square. now that i'm browsing online, i found that it can be bought at just above USD100. not only that, he offered me two lens filters for the zoom and wide for s$200+ but gave me discount since I bought so many stuff already...so he gave the filters to me at $100!

I would like to get my money back! but I just came back to my country today... bought the stuff yesterday... is there a way to make the claims online??? please HELP

    ReplyDelete
  18. @richard: can you please help me in processing the claims? etc?

  21. Wow.. Same thing just happened to me.. My wife was in Singapore for business and told her to get a lens.. She got overcharged $1,000 US!! Sales guy name was Eric.. There are lots of things I should have done before sending her but really try to hope that most people are honest.. This is not the case at Cameratalk.. I think we all should meet in Singapore and pay a little visit to this shop.. Maybe kick some ass.. I know I will next time I am there.. So we are going to try the small claims route.. I don!t blame my wife for this mess.. I blame myself for not doing my homework.. but this really has to stop and this place needs to be closed down!! I have their phone number..006563339161.. Maybe we should all call on a certain day.. I am so pissed about this!!

  22. Oh was I taken in. I wanted a new Video with camera got shown 'top of the range' Sanyo with everything thrown in. Only to find same camera on offer in Sinapore Airport for a fraction of the price. I wasn't given the camera I was shown and boy was I taken to the cleaners with the price, and he asked for cash and like a mug I handed some over. I paid $1,650 for a camera worth $450 only to find back in UK top of the range is only £299.

  23. Thank you everyone for posting your comments. I was in Singapore on holidays last week and upon the recommendation of a friend I went to Simlin Square to investigate buying a lense for my Canon 450D. I went into this store and was greeted by Eric and Yap, two very smooth salespeople. They sold me a Sigma lense and claimed it was the best lense and had image stabiliser control. They charged me $1600 Singapore. After I left the store I suspected something was wrong, and when I looked closely at the lense I discovered it did not have image stabliser. I went back and took photo's of them to give to the police so they have nowhere to hide. I also have his handwriting as he wrote his name on a business card. These guys and their company are thieves and conmen, do not buy from this store, you will be ripped off. What Eric and Yap will find out soon is that I am going to fight them in court, and will do so just for the pleasure of seeing him exposed in the papers and hopefully convicted. I will also be writing to the Singapore tourism board. What shame these people bring upon the good people of Singapore.

  24. Hi Again, would anyone be interested in either of the following two suggestions.
    1. Engage a local lawyer to fight a class action against these guys.
    2. Take our story to a reputable journalist to run a story.
These guys need to be stopped. If so leave a comment and I will set up an email account or dedicated web page for people to log in and follow.

  25. This store is a total rip off!

Last December 31, 2010, I was looking for a Cannon 18-200mm lens and the salesman outside the store said a very, very low price for it. He offered it for S$600 while other stores were selling it at S$850.

Once I entered the store the salesman started discouraging me from buying that lens and said that Tamron 18-200mm lens was better. He was a good talker, giving me advice on photography and saying that he is a professional and that I should trust "uncle." He even showed me a receipt that he sold the same lens to an Australian for S$678 and he will give it to me at S$500 since I'm on a budget. He was very convincing and he really knows how to get your trust. So I ended up buying the Tamron lens. I had a bad feeling after and wanted to have the lens exchanged and just get the Cannon lens but I saw in the receipt that he made me sign to agree that the goods were not returnable or exchangeable. I went back to my country the next day.

When I searched the internet, I realized that the price I paid for the lens was double!

This store should be shut down. I never thought that this could happen to me in Singapore. This is a disgrace to Singapore's reputation!

I would also like to get my money back.

  26. @raccoon_eyes: were you able to get your money back? if yes, how did you do it since you're not in Singapore? i hope you could also help me.

  27. On 31st december 2010 i was in Singapore for the first time. at that time my aim was canon 550D. then he (eric) suggest to me Fujifilm HS 10 with the same method. he show his fake bill and etc then to cut shot i have buy this camera with SGD1300.

Then appreciate if somebody who know law at singapore can take action to them. I'm not really well known in singapore rules to take action against them. other than that, please make sure their shop was closed and all the product shall be seize.

I dont know, why singapore government havent take any action against them. Is that this activity being allowed in singapore, but i guess it wasn't.

Appreciate if somebody can sue them for this mother fucker cheater.

  32. I shall not bored you with the details, hence the short story. I purchased a camcorder from Camera Talk Pte Ltd at Sim Lim Square at #02- 91, I was persuaded to buy a different brand (sanyo instead of sony) and was intentionally misrepresented that model is the latest model of Sanyo. I paid $650 for it after bargaining it down from $700. After the purchase, I found out that the model that I bought is only worth $200 and is already no longer in production. (as quoted from established shop, Challenger, Funan, Best Denki).
The intention of the email is not to get back the difference as I can simply submit the form to Small Claim Tribunal.
My intention is to highlight this matter to people in power in the parliament that the government needs to do something to these shops. I shall highlight the reasons.
    1. Salesman overcharged me more than three times the original price.
    2. Salesman does not appear apologetic when confronted and retorted that there is nothing we can do.
    3. I have called SIM LIM SQUARE STARetailers, who responded that Camera Talk Pte Ltd have received so many complaints regularly that they are blacklisted by STB. However they can’t do anything about this except advising victims to go to the Small Claim Tribunal.
    4. Camera Talk Pte Ltd is not afraid of victims going to Small Claim Tribunal since they will simply have to pay back what they earned from the victims. They are not punished or fined in any way as it is not a criminal law. In business sense no net loss, since they are already blacklisted. Is this a loop hole in our system to allow business who cheat and misrepresent beyond reasonable doubt to continue operating in Singapore, especially in a place where there are many tourists? Small Claim Tribunal will always be busy with unlimited claims, as these businesses are not afraid to repeat their offence. In law, it’s not even considered an offence.
    5. Perhaps, we will see a need to put an end to all this after reading a blog set up by someone on Camera Talk Pte Ltd. Many locals and tourists are cheated and misrepresented by the company and yet feel helpless in Singapore. Many victims (locals and tourists) are shouting for the Singapore Government to do something. Singapore must act. The government can do something.

  33. i wished i had googled this shop before i bought my camera. really wished i had bought it from alan photo downstairs. they quoted me 1130. i walked into cameratalk and the guy seemed pretty nice at first. quoted me 1060 so i thought, why not save the 70. confirmed with him if it was the final price after gst and he nodded. i even tried bringing down the price by telling him that i could pay in cash and he said cash or card theres no difference in price.

he proceeded to take 1 hour to retrieve the camera i'd requested, after trying to sell me the white version, saying the black had been sold out.

1 hr later he returned with the black epl2 that i requested for. upon payment, he told me that he had to add GST and that hiked the bill up to 1130, and told me he couldnt include camera case. on top of that he said i had to pay cash cause the price he quoted me is for cash only. i was pretty pissed at this point in time. waited for an hr already n i just wanted to get it over n done with.

the poor cust service was not the highlight. thing is, he gave me the wrong lens for my camera and i only found out when i tried to fit it in at home. now hes refusing my calls. argh. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. IT'S POISON.

  35. I WISH I HAD GOOGLED THIS PLACE BEFORE BUYING MY CAMERA.

I got cheated there too today! I went in planning to buy a Nikon D5100 or Canon 550D but the salesman inside convinced me not to and pretended to be really nice and professional and introduced me to a Nikon Coolpix p500. He was so nice and said i should trust "uncle" and he said he would give it to me at a really cheap price so i thought ohkay, why not? After buying it, i went home and found out that i was cheated of $130! I did heavy research but only on the Canon550D and NikonD5100! I knew nothing of the Coolpix p500 and yet i was convinced to buy it at a higher price! I called back to ask for a refund the very same day, only hours later. The salesman's tone had completely changed! He was absolutely rude and lacked any manners whatsoever. He said if i wanted to exchange the newly-bought camera with either one of the two cameras i was originally planning to buy, i had to pay an additional 300 dollars instead of the 100 odd dollars more that they actually cost!

The people here are not to be trusted! Everyone should boycott this horrible place!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I also forgot to add, they gave me fake batteries and told me that the camera was made in Japan when in fact its made in Indonesia! They're a bunch of liars who get away with it in broad daylight!! If there's anything that we as consumers can do about it we must do it before this gets worse!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No one should go to this place. They are real criminals!!!!! The bundle story is a scam. They tried to sell me a battery for a Nikon priced $60 in the USA for SPD 120 !!!!. They also sold me a wide angle lens conversion for SPD 400 while you can find the exact one in Amazon for $30 or less. I am glad I didn't fall for other lenses, batteries, memories, etc that they were trying to push.
When I called them to return the wide angle lens conversion they said that it was part of a "bundle".
I will start an official claim, but the idea of the Class Act sounds good to me.
I hope the camera I bought there, a Nikon D3100, is not a fake also.
I am contacting Nikon and Cannon directly and placing a formal claim.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I took Camera Talk to the Small Claims Tribunal. The Singapore Tourism Board represented me and it only cost $10 Singapore for a court filing fee. The Board ruled in my favour that the store employee misled me on the specifications of the lens I bought, the tax refund I would get at the airport when I left the country and a number of other statements that were false and misleading. I got a full refund! Stay away from this shop, stay away from Eric the slick salesman, he is a liar and a cheat and brings great shame on his family name. Yap is the other conman in the store, he likewise brings great shame on his family by his actions, they both also bring shame on the good people of Singapore. I encourage everyone to make a complaint and pursue them through the courts. It is not a hard process. Be brave and see justice done. The owner of the shop is Jeremy Loh, he calls himself the General Manager. Big title for a tiny little camera shop that specialises in lying to and cheating customers. He must agree and encourageh Eric's behaviour or he would have terminated his employment by now. So many complaints have been lodged against this store is is amazing someone hasn't done some serious damage to the shop and these people. I certainly don't agree with that sort of thing happening, but they just might push it too far one day. Write to the Singapore Tourism Board and complain people and take them through the courts. The contact details are as follows -

  45. April 2014 and Camera Talk mischiefs go on. Here is only one small part of my story. A lot more to come which includes an overcharge of 900-1000 dollars by this guy for a camera and lenses I bought. When confronted they admitted but no way they would budge to give me what I demanded. Details of this later. For now, I would like to warn others that this shop should still be boycotted today in 2014. I should have checked this shop out before shopping at Sim Lim. Never buy anything at Sim Lim Square on your very first visit to any of the shops. Not only are the shops not very honest, but I believe they also work with each other to get you even after you have left the shop. Again, more details later. Camera Talk guy by the name of Derrick sold me a 32G scandisk card saying that it costs $150 after I asked him for a 64G card which he said he did not have in stock. He took the 8G card that came with the camera I purchased and told me that in exchange, I pay $100 for a 32G card instead of $150. I was too trusting. But when I went to the shops downstairs, I found that this guy had lied through his teeth. It costs only $89.90 for a 32G card and $159 for the 64G card. I went up again to Derrick and he pulled out his file to show me the store price. Then he gave me a 16G card of poorer quality to pacify me. He told me that he makes 'mistakes' like this - even giving a Canon 700D camera for a 7D camera!!!!! Can you beat that kind of scam?

    ReplyDelete
  46. On March 14, 2015 I was walking out of our hotel when this guy feom Camera Talk Pte Ltd on Coleman St. showed me where to go to see the sights in Singapore. Then he looked at my camera and noticed I didn't have UV lens, so he put one on it before I couild ask how much it was.He said $100. Not familiar with the Singapore exchange rate since I came from Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia and my wife was doing the exchanging, I gave him $100. Then later I found out that it's 1.30 Singapore to 1 US dollar. So I passed by another camera store and found out the price of the UV lens was just $15 dollars. I guess this guy was honest. So the next day I confronted the guy and asked for a refund. He said the only refund he can give me is $6. I was so mad I took the UV lens out of my camera and threw it on the counter saying he can have his merchandise cause I don't want it. It made me feel better just to have my money stolen than pay a ridiculous price for if. The next day I passed by the sotore again and asked me if I wanted the UV lens back. I told him I already got one for $15. So he was trying to sell me a wide -angle lens minus the $100 so I said no thanks. The nerve of that crook, I told him he was giving Singapore a bad name. There are so many of these scammers all around Singapore. I should have checked comments of what to avoid in Singapore. The government is so strict about gum chewing and cussing and keeping the city clean, but the thing they should do is clean up these scammers and cheaters. Boycott the CAMERA TALK PTE LTD at #01-23 Coleman Street in Singapore !!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Coleman street outlet is also worse. I had checked a 50mm 1.8/G lens on my camera and he offered an amazing price. After few days i came back and bouthgt that. But this time he billed me the 1.8/D which is without auto focus. I was asking him to open and check the lens he never did that and kept talking a lot and diverting the topic. This guys never listens to what customer asks. Finally after billing i realised he gave me a 1.8/D and when i asked him he gave some nonsense like last week was an export piece and a different item. And kept saying i must be confused and mistaken. Finally brought out the 1.8/G and asked for 100$ more.
